Ok. So I got a lil bit curious and bought the PBU big bore package. I installed everything in about over 2 hours. It started right up and had a few idle problems on my X1 but no biggie. Fixed the idle problem and no take off power. Ok so i leaned it out, still no power. Richened it out still no power. Closed the low end all the way and brought it out two full turns and did quarter turn adjustments still no luck. I played with the high screw to see if it would offset my adjustments with the low, it did a tad but not much. I thought I installed something wrong so I pieced back my stock ported head the next day and it screamed way better than what PBU's big bore head did. So basically I got ripped for $300 for no power and its all heresay what they have on their website. STAY AWAY FROM PBU PRODUCTS.

Hey blah, my BS detector started with PBU's boost tube. The only boost I got was taking it off cus it bogged my engine down so much. Dont reply to my messages cus you dont know what I get and when i get it homie. The only one full of BS is you right now. So BLAH!! :D :bigl :D

Not to upset the higher (ADA) beings :D, but PBU's gear does look good.
Please note I said "it looks good" as I have not tested it, whereas we run ADA gear on our 3 bikes and so far all is good.
It is always good to hear other people's experiences with different parts.

Lol, Boost tubes, i can tell you this, we had a hydraulic cylinder setup as a adjustable boost tube way back before pocket bikes were even invented.

PBU kit, all i'm saying is i tried to get hold of a X1 Headstrong kit about 3 weeks ago and they had such a back order of engines that they had not made any yet, they said 9-12 weeks, i simply found it amazing that you wondered in and got one the same day! I'm even more amazed that you dismissed it as junk without having a good go at figuring out what the problem is. If you can't work it let me see some pics of it and i will buy it from you.

Another question, You were plugging www.4myscooter.com in another thread, why didn't you get one of their 52mm ported kits and save yourself 100 clams?

Well to quote all of you on this subject, PBU has personally been receiving returns for their headstrong kit. As more me, I am one of them. So for you to say that your high end is good I :bigl and say :nono . PBU can't port and they don't know how a boost port works and probably put a boost port with a dremel kit. :bigl PBU???? Don't know why I bothered with their headstrong kit and whack boost bottle.

I'll save all of you a head ache and say PBU is a rip off!!!!

Ithink the cut the boost ports on a milling machine with a radius end cutter, should be good enough for the massmarket. The main problem with these kits is they rely on the buyer to set the squish right. Most people dont know what a squish is so they'dprobably stuff it up or justbolt the head on and hope for the best. I have seen some real scary tolerances from china so who knows what un-mechanicly minded people are getting when they just slap the kit on and hope it's right. In general the transfer time area on a stock cylinder has pretty low transfer are, they work for lower rpm and top end is startved, by adding two boost ports pbu has solved this problem. If they cut them so they don't go too far above the main transfers and the piston ring ends dont fall in the ports then it's a no brianer and will work. If for some reason people are not getting good results then they should 1st check the squish is correct, and second re-torque the head down, as 90% time the bolts come loose after the engines run for a bit...pbu do state the bolts should be re-torqed and they do give a squish setting. so any returns are 99% a problem with the buyer not being able to follow instructions.

I don't work for pbu, i just like the look of the kit, the price is shocking when you compare it ada's head kit but ada has no boost port and only works on a 40mm bore. The way i did mine was buy a millosi (i think) scooter head for $au30 and machine it to my 44 bore, then cut boost ports to match the time area of the exhaust. i also took the liberty of raising the cylinder and this increased the port duration of both the exhaust and transfers, i left the transfer roof unchanged but cut the radius larger as it's a bit small. this and a 14:1 compression ratio worked as well as a Head strong kit if not better and only cost $au30, compare that to the $au500 price of a pbu kit.

I'm wondering why ada has yet to release it's version of a headstrong kit? i guess they are busy? i actually waited so long for their reed cage to make it to australia that i ended up making my own.

Blah I agree most people just bolt these head kits on and don`t set anything right and complane when it does not perform as they should.

How much did you raise the cyl-port timing? I am trying to figure out what is correct for these motors.

You made your own reed cage cool! How does it flow and what carb are you using with it? That is another delema I am trying to figure out. I do not like the Walbro carbs I have tried but have not got a chance at the WYK. I love how easy the ported stocker is to tune but I think these modded motors need more air. I think the next try is a Dell'Orto maybe the 16mm.

Thanks Nate
