I'd like to remove the electric starter from an engine similar to one below. Tore the starter apart thinking I could just delete the electric motor....but nooo parts don't match up. Can this be reasonably done?

ok, i took the whole electrical system out of my x1, on mine, on the pull start housing, there is a electrical chord that "plugs in" to it, unplug that. but what i did, was just unplugged it under my tank, and i took the battery out along with lights, horn, electric start, and speedo. its not that hard, you just have to find the source. my electric start was a little black square, about an inch by an inch, with rubber around it. what bike do you have?

Thanks, but all I want to do is remove the electric starter from a motor like in first post of this thread. I thought I could take it out and match the recoil up to the engine. Problem is the shaft on the engine then does not match the starter "paw" threads. The engine is not original to my installation and the electric starter gets in the way. Anyone ever done this?

im not sure, many bikes electric starters are different, and kevin, what i've heard, is that starters slow the bike down or something, i took mine off to reduce weight, plus it wears your battery down like all the way after 2 or 3 starts. i eliminated soo much weight off my bike, i went from 93 to 54 pounds taking parts off.

hmmm lets see.... i took out the battery, like 8 or pounds, all the wires, about 5 lbs, kickstand about 2 lbs, front and rear fenders 3 lbs, fender supports 2 lbs, spedometer 2 lbs, bottom fairing 5 lbs, upper fairing 5 lbs, headlights and elec. start, 4 lbs. i think thats it, they're not all exact, but when i bought the bike, the description said like 94 lbs :)

there must be nothing left of your bike but the frame and motor

i also stripped my cateye completely down to the frame and motor. it saves so much weight.
