coated versus non coated.

I am assumeing the only differences between the coated superior pistons and the non coated ones is the fact that the coated ones last longer. correct? there is no performance difference?

There are definitely performance advantages to the slippery Nickel HP Coated Pistons. The are just a little larger from the coating for better stability in the bore, but far less likely to seize as they are very sllppery. The coating also gives the piston scuff resistance, as it is like a hard, slippery shell. The piston is also slippery in the grooves where the rings are, allowing the ring to move and adapt under load to seal better in the bore. We had one of our dealers test them several weeks ago, and he said that he got an 800 RPM increase on a slightly modified LH. Part of that gain could have been due to the .039" (1mm) thin racing rings which are 33% lighter than the standard LH rings. There are instances when a piston tightens in the bore under heavy loads and performance drops withoug seizing the piston. The Slippery Nickel Piston with the Low Friction coating will slide with less resitance in the bore and run cooler as well.
