How Too: Use a Dark Soul Chain Tool

There ar two movable pins on this tool. The center pin (partially exposed in the first pic) is used to drive the pin out of the chain and into the T-slot on the breaker. The outside right larger cupped pin is used to drive the pin back into the chain or put the chain back together. The pin in the center of the channel is used to properly locate the chain. To move the pins in or out you need a 4 MM allen wrench.

    First Step:

Lay the chain into the breaker. Then use a 4 MM allen wrench to screw the center pin clockwise until it stops. This will drive the pin out of the chain links and into the T-slot, but leave the pin inside of the outside dogbone. Back the center pin out of the chain and remove the chain from the breaker.

Second pic is what your chain will look like when you remove it from the tool. To take the chain apart simply pull it apart and the pin should stay in the outside dogbone, as in the third pic. First picture is what a removed link looks like.

To put the chain back together after you have removed links or added links, put the two ends together and flip the chain over as in the first pic. Then slip the pin inside the cupped pin hole as in the second pic. Then drive the cupped pin all the way in until it stops. This will put the chain back together. Then back the cupped pin out, and BINGO....you have a new length chain Remove the chain from the tool and make sure that it moves freely and there are no tight spots.

I customized my tool by drilling two holes through it and adding a short piece of C channel aluminum and securing it with two bolts and nuts. This way I can put it into a vice to hold it when I use it OR I can still use it in my hand or flat on a work bench as in the How Too.

I'm just glad you posted pics in post #6.
It was driving me nuts wondering why my chain breaker didn't have 2 Phillips screws on the face.

I figured someone would ask what the screws were for, so I got out in front of it
