So here's the deal, a friend of mine got an X1(i think) pocket bike from a guy for $350(supposed to have been brand new). Now this bike started the first time on the electric start and ran for 45 minutes then just completely died. Now here comes the interesting circumstances, whatever was done to this bike(had a remote start wired in) ended up applying power to the magneto and burning it up. So i completely remove the remote start and re-wire the bike so that everything is powered correctly, replace the magneto and try to get the bike started, i was unsuccessful at getting the bike started w/o the assistance of a little brake clean, as soon as i put something decent in it the bike started right up on manual start. The eletric start no longer works it just over draws the battery and starts to overheat the positive battery wire. So i think nothing of it, i get the bike running and allow it to run at idle for about 5 minutes, and smoke begins to come out of the starter housing(odd but i have no idea as i was not the first person to ride the bike). So i try to make the bike move, the engine rev's up and holds RPM but it acts as if there's no friction in the transmission, i'm not sure if oil needs to be added or what(there was absolutely NO paperwork with this bike). Anyone have ANY suggestions as to what might be wrong with this bike besides the person who bought it not knowing enough about it??

I appreciate any input you guys/girls might have. I think i am gonna try talking him into putting a pipe and carb on this thing so it starts easier.

this doesn't look too good, any idea why the starter would overheat even though it's not being used and cause this??

My guess would be that it is being fed power or could also not be grounded properly.

Is that a WRX in the background? What year?

MY99 or MY00 from the front bar. Has STi clear indicators, fog light covers, and front lip.

If it is a WRX, what's been done to it?

i can try grounding it but there's no way it's being fed power, the starter relay is disconnected because of the starter issues.

                as for the car

2001 Impreza RS(we didn't get the GC/GF/GM WRX in the states)

It's a Naturally Aspirated 2.5l 5mt, has cams, intake, headerback exhaust, 9.5lb flywheel, and NOS Direct Port Nitrous Kit. Within the next 8-10 months it's getting a transplant from a US WRX and possibly some Jun 264/264 cams w/ a lil bit of headwork. going to be running a VF30 to start and will be bumping up to a HKS GT-30 bolt on hybrid they sell here in the states.

Jbonnardel-thank you, at least we narrowed it down, any idea on who makes it??
