  • GP460 on GSR40 frame *HELP*!

Hey, everyone. This is my first custom build. I got a GSR40 goped a couple weeks ago and it ran great but i wanted faster so I bought a GP460 and the toymaker adapter plate for gp460 to gsr40 frame and I just received the engine and adapter plate yesterday .

Earlier today I mounted the engine with the toymaker adapter and everything all hooked up besides my chain and my throttle cable. I guess my cable was too short because when I mounted it, the throttle would not return back or would not rev all the way down. I'm literally dumbfounded and stuck with a non working goped. I'm sad, stuck and feel so stupid spending legit 12 hours today trying to get it and everything working
     .
For the chain , I dont know how long it should be or how tight. I dont have a ADA chain tensioner. I only have the stock g430L black plastic chain tensioner guide and I'm not sure if that just protects the chain or if it tensions it too? I made the right length to fit on both sprockets but how do I put the chain on? , do I have to fake the wheel off or do I slip it on and then use the chain breaker while it's on, to put the pin in the link? And then tension fix?

I dotn even know or remember how it was setup yesterday. I'm so sad and depressed thinking about this and I'm made atmysekd for even trying to do this..my cable is toast because I tried cutting the housing off to m as keep more chain available but its metal cable. I'm so fkin stupid. Please help me guys tell me what I need to buy or get to fix and make this work

thank you so much in advanc . I'm from NH by the way if you know any shops that could help asap.

Let me know.how this chain setup looks and If the guide tensioner is correct position and if I need to tighten by floating the guide left or right. Thank you

Stupid post got flagged too many edits, here is what I posted:

So normally the GP460 have a bolt that is below the motor. that presses onto the frame.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UcJmBPfmNQ

You need to create a chain that is very close to the final tension. Then put onto the motor sprocket and then onto the rear wheel sproket and put the bolt through the rear tire. To complete you adjust that screw bottom motor screw upwards to finish the proper chain tension.

How does the Toymaker motor mount handle final tension? Are you sure you have proper sprocket combinations for a GP460 motor?

Buy a new throttle cable and do not be so hard on yourself. It might just be an old cable that needed to be replaced since internally no longer low friction.

          GTR46 Interceptor sprocket / chain

          chain length

front sprocket teeth ? (across the top)
back sprocket teeth? (down the left side)
          5 6 7 8 9 10
          56 76 76 76 78 78 78
          60 80 80 80 82 82 82
          64 86 86 86 88 88 88
          68 90 90 90 92 92 92
          72 94 94 94 96 96 96
          76 98 98 98 98 100 100
          80 104 104 104 104 106 106
          84 108 108 108 108 110 110
          98 120 120 120 120 122 122

Fomatting sucks but example is 6 motor teeth and 68 rear teeth is 90 length chain.

Thank you so much buddy. I feel a little better. I just ordered a new throttle cable and I'm not sure about the sprockets and the g460 motor. I'll count them once I'm home in about 20-30 minutes. This helps keep a ton I just need to put it to use and I hope I can get this thing up and running. I'm depressed just thinking about it I have absolutely no tool box or access to tools besides what came with the engine and a chain breaker

Also I'm not sure how the toy maker adapter handles the tension but I'll take a pic of the underneath and of adapter and the adapter top when I get home too

Unfortunately, those bolts dont work because my gp460 is mounted from the bottom flat (Toy Maker Adapter) and not on the side mount where I can adjust the motor angle\tension

ESR_RSE HEY BUD I took a few pics and in wondering how to use the graph, do I go by my motor or my frame? Because the gsr40 chain length gearing graph gives a different number than the chain length gearing graph for the gsr46 but I have a gp460 on my gsr40 frame ... I'm lost lol. Anyways I have 64 rear sprocket and I believe a 7 tooth front sprocket. (Its either 6 tooth but I'm pretty sure its 7 tooth, but my chain is blocking so I can't count all) 20190824_002408.jpg20190824_002431.jpg

ESR_RSE hey bud sorry to bother you again but I just put 25:1 premix in and I started up my new gp460 engine and it revs up a the way loud and dies or just revs high and then I kill it. Unless neutral is supposed to he that dang loud? It's really loud. (No exhaust yet, only stock muffler on) the throttle linkage on the carburetor is all the way down low and the low jet setting is on stock manufactured setting 1.5. Please help I'm so dumbfounded. It's so loud when it turns over..

Hey welcome to the beginner's struggle of gopeds. As time goes on and you mess around with them more, some of this stuff will make more sense. I have been out of the ped game for sometime, but I think I still have some knowledge and time that may help you.

As for the chain length graph, they typically go by the stock frame formatting. Since you are using a 40 frame, a 460 motor, and the TM adapter, those variables probably won't match up with what the graph says.

My advise would be buy about 2-3 foot of 25HD chain and a chain breaker tool. I never cared for the master links. This way, you will be able to take the full length of chain, wrap it around the sprockets and see where you need to 'break' it and connect it to make a custom length chain.

This is where an ADA chain tensioner really comes in handy. It allows you to make a chain a link or two longer and allow the tensioner to tighten that slack to help the chain and sprockets last longer.

The 40 tensioner helps a little but as you ride around and the plastic rides on the chain, it wears down the plastic and you will have to adjust it periodically. The ADA version is basically a set up once as it's good until the chain is to too stretched, but if set up properly, the chain will last quite some time.

Your pinion gear, or motor sprocket is definitely a 7 tooth. I may have some pinions in different sizes I can send as well as wheel sprockets. I believe my preferred choice for gearing was 8/76 with a stock 460 motor. Easily got up to 40+mph

When you start your motor and let it idle, do you see the pinion gear spinning? I you could make a quick video of it being started and running with what you are describing, I or others may be able to help a little more. Could just need a simple tuning or it could be a throttle cable/linkage issue.

Best of luck. We all want you to get the thrill of riding after doing a custom build....I miss that feeling myself.

I get about $90 and I might be able to borrow a few from my dad across the states could send on bank of America app. I'm excited man! I'll look in a minute when I start the engine and let you know of its spinnin . Do you have a email or cell? Mine is 603 491 5932.
