Hello BilletBoard! I recently picked up a Super GSR46R with a non-working GP460 engine. This motor came equipped with the ADA head kit for gp460 as well as the +1mm stoker crank. In pulling the engine apart I found deep scoring around the exhaust port of the cylinder base. It is my thinking that the cylinder base as well as the piston/ring should be replaced. I was wondering if someone has any information regarding what could make the scoring happen like this. I assume the ring could be getting caught up somehow but is there any common issue I could be missing? Could it be an issue with the stroker crank? Not too sure about this one...
The previous owner had the dome for running 110 octane which I want to replace with the 91 octane option that specifies its for the +1mm stroker. I have no reason to believe the head needs to be replaced by looking at it other than the dome being switched. Am I correct in assuming the top piece on the ada head kit [the head I guess] is generally able to be reused if there is no apparent wear? Also my final consideration is concerning the copper gaskets; do I need to replace them with new ones? Im assuming the current gaskets have been run for some time. I see there is one for the dome and possibly one for the cylinder (although there are two options for the cylinder gasket thickness and that I am also confused about).
Another thing I noticed was a little oil leaking out of the crankcase right at the bottom. I haven't taken this apart yet because I didn't want to pull the flywheel. I belive I will have to though because I do not see the stock gasket in place; it looks like the previous owner has redone this with gasket maker paste becuase theres some kind of gasket there but I question its integrity. Is the correct gasket for the crankcase the CY 4-Bolt Crankcase Gasket on DDM? I don't see it specifically listing the gp460. Also there is a steel reinforced option, is that the right move?
I know I'm throwing a lot out there but any information would be appreciated. If it's too much trouble I will just get the long block replacement motor and call it a day but I wanted to use the upgrades that I got with it if possible (+1mm stroker, ADA head kit). Also if anyone could recommend the best way to go about cleaning these parts (I was thinking parts/brake cleaner and pretty much the same for the carb when i do the rebuild. Thanks for looking.
