Motor is still in the break in period but randomly when I'm riding then try to stop it will randomly rev out and not want to shut off. My concern is since its still breaking in, I don't want to cause damage to the engine. I've checked the throttle cable, swivel on carburetor, and all possible adjustments, and don't know what to do. I thought it could be an air leak, but its new so there shouldn't be any. Any help would be appreciated.

what Goped is the motor on?? Sports generally keep moving until the scooter stops completely.

It's on a sport frame. When I try to ride it, I can tell when it wants to rev out because when I try to break it doesn't want to stop/shut off. Then soon as I would jump off it and pick the scooter up off the ground the engine revs all the way out until I hit the kill switch. I just don't want it to damage a new engine not even out of break in. I've tried adjusting the carburetor and idle screw and it doesn't seem to help at all. I also checked for air leaks and checked to see if maybe the manifold bolts were loose but they weren't.Last edited by Rusty Nail; 03-08-2023, 11:01 AM.

It's annoying too because all I want to do it ride it without it trying to kill me lol. Only other thing I could think of is maybe it's possible that the little spring on the throttle linkage is getting caught causing the motor to rev out. Just need some additional ideas I can try to see if it will fix it.

I was thinking about trying removing the little spring that goes over the throttle cable. the Swivel has a spring so seems like the spring on the cable wouldn't be needed(I could be wrong). I have a gas bicycle with similar design and the spring that goes over the clutch cable on it isn't needed due to the clutch spring providing plenty of tension.
