I don't know what other parts there would be. We have the same stuff that we have for the Zenoah's, hp carb, pipe, head kit, timing advance key. Just missing a stroker, which is much more of an investment to make than the other parts.
Brooks & Marv, everyone around this area has the 40cc Tanaka on their scooters. All the Boxer guys all the Blade Z guys. Some of the Boxer guys have 1000 spindle 34 MPH scooter, that's with no pipes. One of the local shops here in the Sacramento area has the Tanaka 40 mastered. On thing that could be greatly improved upon would be the piston & combustion chamber. I can just imagine an ADA head kit for the Tanaka 40 with re designed piston with removable domes. That 4 port motor has so much potential as it is the head kit is like the last piece to the puzzle, not really but it would be great.
There has to be tons of people out there with these motors, I mean look how good the blade z sell. They are in Costco's, Sports stores, lawn mower shops, power equipment shops, Scooter shops, etc......
There has to be enough out there to make a profit.
I have a prototype head kit for the 40cc engine. But, it is a lot of work. The head kit would sell for more than an entire engine! Plus, we run into the whole C.A.R.B. thing in California, just like with the Geo? model Go-Peds?. So, at this time it is on hold.
What is the carb deal for california? I mean are there laws for certain carburators or something? Does anyone know if the Tanaka 35cc is leagal to buy here in california?
CARB's mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare and ecological resources through the effective and efficient reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering the effects on the economy of the state.
They are legal only when operated on private property such as racing. The sticker on the box says: Sold for Closed Course Competition only. Not legal for highway use."
For that you dont see them in many shops but some have them.
California is a problem when it comes to HP parts. The 40cc is a Carb Engine, the 35cc is not. There are not many BladeZ's being sold anymore with the 35cc. Ultimately, modifying a CARB Engine or selling parts for them that end up in California is a dubious risk. We are not able to buy Tanaka Engine Parts from Tanaka. There is one Tanaka Distributor that has exclusive rights for the Western Hemisphere. They have an agreement with BladeZ not to sell the engines in any market that would be competitive to their products. Unless there are some changes, we will not spend much time developing parts for the Tanaka Engines like we have for Zenoah. We sell HP parts for Zenoah to the RC, Lawn & Garden, and Scooter Industry. There is not enough demand nor any willing cooperation from the Engine Company or BladeZ Scooters with ADA to encourage us to jump in and develop parts in an area they are trying to keep for themselves for now. Maybe things will cange in time. Boxers don't use Tanakas any more because the engines are not available for them to purchase. We will have to wait and see if anything changes.
