  • New Goped Rider

Hi guys(and girls) I am a 15 year old Goped rider from L.A. I bought my first goped on August 2020, a 2020 goped GSR sport. I really love it and I rode it almost every day. I saved 950$ from work at my school making 200$ a month and I finally bought it! i was so excited and I broke it in. A few months later (December) I decided to sell it. Why, you may ask? I really fell in love with the Sport and I really wanted it. I was also tired of relubing the chain. So I sold it for 700$!!! The person who influenced me to get the goped was my neighbor and he would let me ride his vast collection of sports, GTRs and Bigfoots. He even had the original 1985 model and a 1 out of 5 rare prototype board. So I sold my ped and now I want to get a Sport model. I want to have a budget of 400$ MAX so that I can have a goped and have some money saved for a car. Can anyone give me some good pointers of buying used and to see how to get a good deal? Any help would be thanked. I would also like to thank Derek Short on YouTube for some helpful tips and tricks!!! Thank you everyone, tell me what you think down below.

First and foremost welcome to the exciting adventures of go pedding ! I see you are looking to purchase a sport they’re very fun models as I own one myself, you can find plenty of great deals on Facebook marketplace if you feel that offer up isn’t giving you good deals. With you living in LA there should be tons of peds especially (sports ) for sale but I will say this they are very tedious. If you do manage to get one just keep in mind that you would need to adjust the rear tire with the EPW quick release axle after every ride as it prevents crankshaft bending & wear on the spindle. Hope I’ve given you some helpful tips good luck!

Hey there, glad you're getting into the hobby! LA seems to have one of the cheapest markets for peds. You're lucky!

I'm surprised to hear you want to go from chain drive to spindle but I can understand not wanted to deal with the maintenance. Keep in mind you won't be able to idle the engine at stops and the spindle must keep a certain RPM to keep rolling. You can bump start them though which is pretty sweet. I've bought 3 peds used and looked at the following things:
Starting - Does it start easy? Have the seller let you start the engine cold. Request it specifically.

Visual Inspection - Does it have any visible damage?

3rd Party Parts - Did the seller install a bunch of stuff on it? Was it done correctly? Sometimes work done by the seller can be a blessing but just as often it's a curse.

Driving - How does it ride? Can you top out on it? Any issues with the way the engine sounds?

Braking - How does it brake? Does the brake jam?

Killswitch - Any issues stopping the motor with the switch?

If you can stay in the $250 to $350 rand with your Sport you're not doing bad. Have fun!

What about a 29cc and ADP clutch setup? Seems that should be easy to use.

Next time leave the Tesla out of the picture when trying to sell something. I am sure that screams to low ball since you got $$$

Get tip ESR_RSE. Couldn't have said it better myself. I just want to thank you guys for giving the kid tips on all this. It's stuff like this that will keep him on a better path hopefully. Gives him drive, determination, responsibility... The list is endless. Too many people nowadays want to influence them to do things they really shouldn't. I know this, I was one of those kids. But I made my own decisions and had to live with it and the consequences. But had I of had better influence in my life I probably wouldn't of had the same outcome. Luckily for me prison made me better not worse.

But kid, bravo having a job at that age and working to get what you wanted instead of anything illegal. Have fun with whatever purchase you end up making and stay safe. If I had any knowledge on the gas models I could give you advice but I ride a GoPed ESR1000H and it's my first and only one so I don't know what to say for an answer to your question. Ride safe, stay in school, but most of all... Be a damn kid and have some good o' fun like kids should. That outside kind of fun like I had when I was a kid.
